At the regular meeting of the Board of Education, Brett Reichelderfer, new Board member, took the Oath of Office. Joseph Kovalchik conducted a PowerPoint presentation on Bullying and the Middle School Peer Mediation Program. Mrs. Erdo presented the Legislative and CIU20 reports. Nick Politi presented the NCC report.
The Board approved the following:
Professional status and tenure for Michael Seng, Middle School teacher, who has completed three (3) years of teaching and has received six (6) satisfactory evaluations.
Extension of an unpaid childrearing leave for Alison Sugra, Grade 1 Teacher at Lehigh Elementary School, through the remainder of the of the 2006-07 school year. Ms. Sugra will return to her position the first teacher day of the 2007-08 school year.
Resignation of Jason Melniszyn, Assistant Coach for Boys & Girls Soccer, effective January 18, 2007.
Additions and deletions to the Substitute List.
Additions to the District Volunteer master listing for the 2006-07 school year: Sandra Bischof - Borough, Mary Fries - Borough, Lori Kerper - Borough, Amanda Miles - Moore, Stephanie Nemeth - Borough, Kay Rogers - Borough, and Christine Stover - Borough.
Attendance of Jane Erdo, Board Member, at the PSBA Legislative Leadership Conference in Hershey, PA February 25-26, 2007, at an estimated cost of $508.67.
Attendance of Michael Schneider, Athletic Director, at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors’ Association 40th Annual Conference in Hershey, PA on March 21-24, 2007, at an estimated cost to the district of $737.00.
Attendance of Gene Thrash, Technology Coach, at the Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo & Conference in Hershey, PA, on February 11-13, 2007, at an approximate cost of $992.00 to be paid using grant funds.
Adjustment for Kristin Hoffman’s employment to add benefits, as per Board Policy 405 - Employment of Substitute Professional Employees. Her assignment will terminate with the end of the 2006-07 school year.
Donna Rumfield as a Cafeteria Monitor, effective February 6, 2007, or upon receipt of acceptable clearances. Salary will be $7.10 per hour, in accordance with the current salary schedule of the collective bargaining agreement, no benefits.
Continued employment for Patrick McKay, LTS Business Education teacher at the High School, through the end of the 2006-07 school year. His rate of pay will remain at $236.17, with the inclusion of benefits, effective February 6, 2007. His assignment will terminate with the end of the 2006-07 school year.
Unpaid leave of absence for Jayne Miller, Cafeteria Worker at the Middle School, for the period of March 12, 2007, through on or about June 4, 2007.
Daniel Benner as an Assistant Boys & Girls Track Coach, with 0 years experience at a compensation of 80% of the current district supplemental reimbursement totaling $2,946.00, effective February 6, 2007.
Voluntary transfer of Kim Lambert from Hall Monitor at the High School to Nova Net Special Education Instructional Assistant at the High School, effective February 6, 2007, or upon the hiring of her replacement as hall monitor. Salary will be $7.60 per hour, in accordance with the current salary schedule of the collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.
Temporary voluntary transfer of Sandra Marakovits from Hall Monitor at the Middle School to Special Education Instructional Assistant at the Middle School, effective February 6, 2007, or upon the hiring of her replacement as hall monitor, through the end of the 2006-07 school year. Salary will be $7.60 per hour, in accordance with the current salary schedule of the collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.
Mario Pasquariello as Business Education Department Chair, effective February 6, 2007, with a pro-rated stipend of $1,579.00.
Lisa Tarloff as a Hall Monitor, effective February 6, 2007, or upon receipt of acceptable Act 34 and Act 151 clearances. Continued employment will depend upon receipt of an acceptable FBI fingerprint check. Salary will be $7.25 per hour, in accordance with the current salary schedule of the collective bargaining agreement, with limited benefits.
Notification to Peter L. Pavlovic that his present Agreement, effective July 1, 2005, until June 30, 2007, will not be renewed.
Gorman & Associates, Northampton, to perform special audit services for the grading system at a cost of $12,000 with any additional hourly services at a rate of $70/hour pursuant to the proposal dated December 20, 2006.
Authorization for administration to submit PDE-3074 - Self Certification Application for Non- Reimbursable Construction Projects for the maintenance building fire repairs.
Adoption of the 2007-08 General Fund Preliminary Budget with revenues of $76,081,130 and expenditures of $76,081,130. This budget is supported by an increase of 2.18 mills.
Agreement with Lehigh University for the rental of Stabler Arena for the graduation ceremonies on June 8, 2007, at a rate of $6,200 plus any actual expenses.

Authorization for the administration to prepare and solicit bids for the following FY 2007-08 services and supplies:
- Maintenance / Custodian Supplies
- Instructional/General Supplies

- Fuel Oil/Natural Gas
Bills for Payment.
Authorization for the administration, in coordination with the District Solicitor, to prepare the resolution for the Act 1 Taxpayer Relief Act front-end referendum and advertise the intended Board action to propose a Personal Income Tax in the amount of 1.4% for the purpose of increasing the property tax relief to approved homesteads and farmsteads.
Appointment of Allen Collins, 2438 Fox Road, Nazareth PA, to fill the vacancy of Tim Herd as a Northampton Area Public Library Trustee, at the recommendation of the NAPL Board of Trustees, for the term of January 2007 to January 2010.
Formation of the Middle School Environmental Club under the direction of Mr. Douglas Schmidt and Mr. Keith Venanzi at no cost to the District.
Appointment of Jane Erdo as the Northampton Area School District representative to the IU20 Board of Directors for a three year term beginning July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2010.
Donation of $465.00 from Mr. Henry Yeska and Ms. Lydia Williams. The money will be designated to defray the cost of the George Wolf Elementary School Sixth Grade Class trip to the King Tut Exhibit in Philadelphia.
