School Board Meeting

At the regular meeting of the Board of Education, Chris Haller, D’Huy Engineering, and Kim LaBrake, MKSD Architects, reviewed the George Wolf Elementary School project bids.  Jamie Doyle, PFM, reviewed funding options.

 

The Board approved the following:

 

·         Resignation of Daniel Fox from the position of Grade 6 teacher at Wolf Elementary School, effective August 26, 2007.

·         Resignation of Gail DeRea, Head Teacher, effective June 13, 2007.

·         List of Athletic Volunteer Coaches for the 2007-08 school year.

·         List of Athletic Event Staff for the 2007-08 school year, effective July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2008.

·         Resignation of Amanda Rau from the position of Kindergarten Teacher at Washington Elementary School, effective August 19, 2007.

·         Robert Steckel as a PE Academic Opportunities Teacher at the Middle School, effective August 27, 2007.  His salary will be $46,200.00, with benefits, based on a MA degree and Step 5, Year 5 of the current salary schedule

·         Three-year agreement for the Confidential Employees.  The agreement becomes effective July 1, 2007, and extends through June 30, 2010.

·         James Gianopulos as a Floating Custodian, effective July 3, 2007.  Salary will be 80% of the current hourly rate, to be determined upon approval of a new collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.   Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of an acceptable Act 114 FBI Fingerprint clearance.

·         Tara Mushko as a TPE English Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2007.  Continued employment contingent upon receipt of acceptable Act 114 FBI clearance.  Her salary will be $41,703.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 2, Year 2 of the current salary schedule.   

·         Gregory Cryer as a LTS Gifted Coordinator/Science Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2007, through the end of the first semester of the 2007-08 school year, pending receipt of updated and acceptable Acts 34 and 151 clearances.  Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of updated and acceptable Act 114 FBI clearance.  His salary will be $45,844.00, pro-rated with benefits, based on a MA +30 degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule.      

·         2007-08 salary for Susan Fox, Confidential Secretary in the Personnel Office, at $31,200.  Mrs. Fox will receive the salary increases for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 years as stated in the 2007-2010 Confidential Employee Agreement.

·         Melissa Pany as a Special Education Instructional Assistant at Lehigh Elementary School, effective August 27, 2007.  Her continued employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable Act 114 FBI clearance.  Salary will be $9.00 per hour, 80% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.   

·         Julie DeGroot as a Special Education Instructional Assistant at the High School, effective August 27, 2007, pending receipt of updated and acceptable Act 151 clearance.  Her continued employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable Act 114 FBI clearance.  Salary will be $9.00 per hour, 80% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.   

·         Neali Miller as a TPE Special Education Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2007, pending receipt of updated and acceptable Acts 34 and 151 clearances.  Continued employment contingent upon receipt of acceptable Act 114 FBI clearance.  Her salary will be $42,350.00, with benefits, based on a BA +15 degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule.

·         Ryan Pfenning as a Special Education Instructional Assistant at the Middle School, effective August 27, 2007, pending receipt of updated and acceptable Act 151 clearance.  His continued employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable Act 114 FBI clearance.  Salary will be $9.00 per hour, 80% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.   

·         List of head coaches and assistant coaches, with their designated salaries, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, for the 2007-2008 school year, effective July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2008.  Dennis Roman, Stephen Fedorak, Jason Cudzil, Korey Ebert, and Joseph Kovacs are pending receipt of clearances and TB tests.

·         Substitute rates for the 2007-2008 school year, effective July 1, 2007: Instructors - $90.00 for the first 20 days and $100.00 thereafter, Secretaries - $9.60/hour, Instructional Assistants - $7.31/hour, Lunchroom and Hall Monitors - $6.75/hour, and Custodians - 60% of the starting wage rate of the custodial agreement.

·         District Coordinators and their compensation for the 2007-2008 school year.

·         Coy Stampone as a PE Business Education Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2007.  Continued employment contingent upon receipt of acceptable Act 114 FBI clearance.  His salary will be $43,030.00, with benefits, based on a BA +15 degree and Step 4, Year 4 of the current salary schedule.    

·         List of Extra-Curricular & Supplemental Positions for the 2007-2008 school year, effective July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2008.

·         Additional full-time ESL teacher for the elementary grades, effective August 27, 2007.  The person will be paid as per the salary schedule in the professional bargaining agreement, with benefits.

·         Melissa Stone as a PE Special Education Teacher at Lehigh Elementary School, effective August 27, 2007, pending receipt of updated and acceptable Acts 34 and 151 clearances.  Continued employment contingent upon receipt of acceptable Act 114 FBI clearance.  Her salary will be $42,230.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 4, Year 4 of the current salary schedule.   

·         Dana Fentiman as a TPE Special Education Teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, effective August 27, 2007, pending receipt of PA certification.  Her continued employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable Act 114 FBI clearance.  Her salary will be $44,844.00, with benefits, based on a MA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule.  

·         Robert Peloquin as a School Police Officer for the district, effective for the 2007-08 school year.  Starting date is dependent upon agreement of a contract and release from his present employer.

·         Scott Foresman “Reading Street” program as the core language arts program for grades 3- 6 for the 2007-08 school year.  The cost of the grades 3-6 implementation is $290,000.

·         Acceptance of the approval of PlanCon Part I: Interim Reporting #3 for the HS Renovation/Additions Project No. 3179.

·         Authorization for the administration to solicit bids and submit PDE-3074 - Self-Certification Application for Non Reimbursable Construction Projects for the replacement of two wheelchair lifts at the Middle School and authorization for administration to purchase the wheelchair lifts.

·         Bills for Payment.

·         2007-08 maintenance agreement with ITS Mailing Systems, Norristown PA, for the district folding machine at an annual rate of $950.00.

·         Awarding of the C-Fold Paper Towels Bid to XPEDX of Camp Hill, PA, for a total cost of $19,827.50.

·         Agreement with UGI Utilities Inc. to provide for the transportation of natural gas for the District at a rate of $2.25/MCF for the period July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2012, following review and approval of the terms by the District solicitor.

·         Expulsion Hearing Waiver for Student Number 2007-13.

·         Election of the following to fill the vacancy on the Northampton Community College Board of Trustees, to fill the unexpired term of Margaret J. Williams, effective immediately through June 30, 2012: Mr. Rosario S. Amato, Bethlehem Area School District.

·         Donation of used fitness and weight equipment from the Nazareth YMCA to the Northampton Area High School for the new gymnasium.

·         2007-08 Elementary and Middle School Handbooks.
