At the regular meeting of the Board of Education, Silvia Hoffman, MKSD, presented the architect report.  Chris Haller, D’Huy Engineering, presented the engineer report.  Mrs. Erdo presented the legislative report.  Mr. Politi presented the NCC report.  Mr. Koch presented the public library report. 

 

The Board approved the following:

 

·         Involuntary transfer of Bobby Fredericks from Kindergarten Teacher at George Wolf Elementary School to Kindergarten Teacher in Northampton Borough, effective August 27, 2007.

·         Teamsters job descriptions, effective August 7, 2007: Lead Custodian - 2nd Shift, Custodian, Skilled Maintenance, and Semi-Skilled Maintenance.

·         Resignation of Tammie Partridge as Yearbook Co-Advisor at the Middle School, effective for the 2007-08 school year.

·         Resignation of Jeanette Woginrich, 10-Month Secretary, for the purpose of retirement, effective August 20, 2007.

·         Resignation of Charles Troxell, Semi-Skilled Maintenance Worker, for the purpose of retirement, effective August 31, 2007.  The Board agrees to waive the 60-day notice of retirement.

·         Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Northampton Area Custodial Association effective July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2011.

·         Joanne Gaffney as a PE Kindergarten Teacher at Washington Elementary School, effective August 27, 2007.  Her salary will be $45,450.00, with benefits, based on a BA +15 degree and Step 8, Year 8 of the current salary schedule. 

·         Alison Stebbins as a LTS English Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2007, for the 2007-08 school year.  Her salary will be $44,844.00, with benefits, based on a MA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule.   

·         Heather Shaner as Head Teacher at Moore Elementary School, effective August 27, 2007, with a stipend of $2,438.00.

·         Voluntary transfer of Jeanine Braren-Wuchter from Tuesday-Saturday Middle Shift Custodian at the High School to Monday-Friday Middle Shift Custodian at the High School effective August 7, 2007.  Salary will be 85% of the current hourly rate, to be determined, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.   

·         Michele Davidson as a PE 5th Grade Teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, effective August 27, 2007.  Her salary will be $48,800.00, with benefits, based on a MA degree and Step 8, Year 8 of the current salary schedule.   

·         Cassandra Gerancher as a LTS 5th Grade Teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, effective August 27, 2007, for the 2007-08 school year.  Her salary will be $41,550.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule.   

·         Raechel Gross as a TPE 5th Grade Teacher at Moore Elementary School, effective August 27, 2007.  Her salary will be $41,550.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule.

·         Cynthia Zimmerman as a PE Special Education Emotional Support Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2007.  Her salary will be $48,500.00, with benefits, based on a MA+30 degree and Step 7, Year 7 of the current salary schedule. 

·         John Miller as a Technology Assistant, effective August 7, 2007, pending receipt of acceptable Act 151 clearance.  Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable Act 114 FBI clearance.  Salary will be $17.10 per hour, with benefits, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. 

·         Erin Miller as Yearbook Advisor at the Middle School, effective August 27, 2007, at 100% of the stipend rate of $1,542.00.

·         Attendance of Dr. Kathleen Ott, Director of Data, Grants and Special Programs, at a two-day seminar on grant writing on August 7-8, 2007, in Absecon, NJ, at a cost not to exceed $535.00.

·         Attendance of Linda Firestone at the Lehigh University School Study Council, Study Tour 2007, from October 30 - November 1, 2007, to be held in New York City.  The cost to the district is $995.00.

·         Attendance of Curt Dimmick, Assistant Principal in the High School, and Robyn Ginther, Assistant Principal in the Middle School, at the “Highmark Healthy High 5 Bullying Prevention Institute: Empowering Change in Schools” in Hershey, PA, on October 4-5, 2007, at an estimated cost of $523.78.

·         Attendance of Board Members Jane Erdo, Jean Rundle, and Geraldine Skrapits at the PASA/PSBA School Leadership Conference in Hershey, PA October 2-5, 2007, at an estimated cost of $1,901.20.

·         Additional Strategies Instructional Assistant for the 2007-08 school year for the kindergarten classes located in the Northampton Borough Elementary Schools.

·         Nicole Sharkazy as a LTS Half-Time Elementary Physical Education Teacher in the Borough Elementary Schools, effective August 27, 2007, through the end of the 2007-08 school year.  Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable Act 114 FBI fingerprint reportHer salary will be $41,550.00, pro-rated with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule.   

·         New 10-month secretary position with duties to be divided between Security and Transportation.

·         Employment of eight security guards.  The guards will replace those presently provided by StrikeForce.

·         Dorothy Kaas as a TPE Elementary itinerant ESL Teacher, effective August 27, 2007, pending receipt of her ESL Specialist Certificate.  Her salary will be $42,717.00, with benefits, based on a BA +15 degree and Step 3, Year 3 of the current salary schedule.   

·         Revised Elementary Social Studies Curriculum Grade 4.

·         New Gibbs Smith Publisher’s textbook Pennsylvania Our Home for Grade 4 Social Studies.  Each student textbook costs $39.95 for a total cost of $16,139.80.

·         Harcourt Math elementary math program as the core mathematics program for grades K- 2 for the 2007-08 school year.  The cost of the grades K-2 implementation is $75,540.68.  (The cost of the grades 3-6 Harcourt Math program will appear in the 2008-09 school year budget.)

·         Right of way agreement with PPL Electric Utilities to construct and maintain its electric lines consisting of one pad mounted transformer and underground facilities including wires, cables, fixtures and apparatus upon, across, over, under, and along the East 17th Street and adjoining school property, etc. as part of the Siegfried Elementary School renovations in the estimated amount of $25,545.00.

·         Acceptance of PDE approval of PlanCon Part G: Project Accounting Based on Bids for the Wolf/Siegfried Elementary Additions/Renovations Project No. 3311.

·         Authorization for the administration to submit PlanCon Part G: Project Accounting Based on Bids for the George Wolf Elementary Renovation/Addition Project No. 3296 to PDE.

·         Authorization for the administration to submit PlanCon Part H: Project Financing for the G.O. Bonds Series 2003 and 2008 for the George Wolf Renovation/Addition Project No. 3296 to PDE.

·         Change order AV-01 for Sage Technologies in the amount of $14,000 for reducing the umbrella insurance limits on the HS Audio Visual project.

·         Sonitrol Corporation to provide additional monitoring services for the elevator phones at Colonel John Siegfried and Moore Elementary Schools and the Administration building at a cost of $5.00 per month per building, totaling $15.00 per month.

·         Bills for Payment.

·         Authorization for PFM to proceed with preparation for issuance of $3,000,000 in wrap-around debt through the Emmaus General Authority variable rate bond pool.

·         Sixty month lease with Xerox to add the following copier at the print shop: Model 4110 - $1,889.99/Mo.

·         Disposal of computers by sale to AAA Computer and Electronic Recycling, Inc. for $1,929.00.

·         One-year agreement with Dauphin DataCom for maintenance and support of 3COM networking devices at a total cost of $3,288.00.

·         Contract with CIU20 for Mental Health Supportive Services not to exceed $50,160.00 for the 2007-2008 school year.

·         List of Laidlaw school bus drivers for the 2007-2008 school year.

·         Donation of the Linescan System One X-Ray Scanner from U.S. Airways.  The estimated value of the scanner is approximately $10,000.00.
