Regular Board Meeting

At the regular meeting of the Board of Education, William, Conner and Lydia Hanner presented proposed changes to the grading system.  Mrs. Rundle presented the Policy Committee report.  Mrs. Skrapits presented the Technology Committee report.  Shelby Smith presented an update on Student Council activities.

 

The Board approved the following:

 

      Resignation of Angela Buskirk from the position of Grade 5 Elementary Teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, effective April 9, 2008.

      Unpaid childrearing leave for Alison Sugra, Grade 1 Teacher at Lehigh Elementary School, for the period of November 20, 2008, through the end of the first semester of the 2008-09 school year.

      Unpaid leave extension for Jessica Quinones, Kindergarten Teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, beginning August 27, 2008, through on or about October 31, 2008.

      Resignation of Diane Boyko, 12-Month Secretary at the Middle School, for the purpose of retirement, effective June 27, 2008.

      Addition to the District Volunteer master listing for the 2007-08 school year: Joan Sensenig - George Wolf.

      Resignation of Jamie Silfies from the position of One-on-One Special Education Instructional Assistant at the High School, effective April 18, 2008.

      Additions and deletions to the Substitute List.

      Resignation of Kathryn Dyer, Music Teacher for the Borough Elementary Schools, for the purpose of retirement, effective August 15, 2008.

      Christine Steigerwalt to serve as a half day teacher, half day assistant to the principal for the 2008-2009 school year.  She will continue to earn her full teacher salary and a stipend of $5,000.00 for the school year.

      Memorandums of Understanding for the Employee Agreements for Dr. Linda Firestone, Mr. William Falstich, and Mr. William Conner, effective April 22, 2008.

      Attendance/participation of Mr. Lantzer, Mrs. Reinsmith, Mr. Mertz, and 126 students at the Windy City Classic Music Festival in Lombard, IL, from April 23-27, 2008, at a cost to the district of $13,500.

      Appointment of Jennifer Horn as first grade head teacher and Judi Luckenbill as third grade head teacher, effective April 21, 2008, for the remainder of the 2007-2008 school year.  The stipend for each head teacher is $460.00.

      Proposal for changing the grading scale and GPA conversions for the high school, to be effective for the 2008-2009 school year.  Authorize the administration to begin revision of School Board Policy 6:08 (PSBA Policy 212) and accompanying administrative regulations to put the plan into effect.

      Awarding of the electrical contract for upgrades to the HVAC system, as part of the George Wolf Renovation/Addition project, PDE Project No. 3296, to Wind Gap Electric, Inc. in the amount of $10,370.

      Treasurerís Report.

      Bills for Payment.

      The Districtís membership in the PA Education Joint Purchasing Council for a fee of $125, plus 1.5% service fee on all purchases.

      Adoption of the 2008-09 Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School General Fund Budget in the amount of $10,077,080 with the NASD portion of $2,614,169 required to fund the budget.

      Adoption of a resolution to implement a property tax rebate program for the 2008-09 school year with the same income levels and maximum rebate as in prior years.

      Authorization for the administration to advertise the proposed Transfer Tax Resolution for three weeks in a newspaper of general circulation and in the Northampton County Reporter.
