At the regular meeting of the Board of Education, Darrell Crook and Katie Dyer presented ‘Music and Technology in the Borough.  Mr. Conner presented the retroactive grading system.  Silvia Hoffman, MKSD Architects, presented the architect report.  Chris Haller, D’Huy Engineering, presented the engineer report.  Mrs. Rundle presented the Safe School Committee report.  Mr. Arthofer presented the Policy Committee report.  Mr. Fenstermaker presented the BAVTS report.  Alyssa Figura presented an update on Student Council activities.

 

The Board approved the following:

 

·      Professional status and tenure, retroactive to September 2007, for Suzette Gray who has completed three (3) years of teaching and has received six (6) satisfactory evaluations.

·      Half-year sabbatical for Ann Munley, Special Education Teacher at Lehigh Elementary School, for the purpose of professional development, for the second semester of the 2008-09 school year.  Ms. Munley will return to the classroom on the first teacher day of the 2009-2010 school year.

·      Resignation of Melinda Jacobson, Head Teacher, effective June 30, 2008.

·      Additions and deletions to the Substitute List.

·      Valarie Marks as a TPE Grade 5 Elementary Teacher at Siegfried Elementary School, effective August 27, 2008.  Her salary will be $41,703.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 2, Year 2 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new PSEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Sharon Skrapits as a TPE Gifted Support Teacher at the Middle School, effective August 27, 2008.  Her salary will be $41,550.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new PSEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Nicole Stopay as a TPE Health/Physical Education Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2008.  Her salary will be $41,917.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 3, Year 3 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new PSEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Justina Black as a TPE Kindergarten Teacher at Lehigh Elementary School, effective August 27, 2008.  Her salary will be $41,703.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 2, Year 2 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new PSEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Allison Fiorini as a TPE Business Education Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2008, pending receipt of PA certification.  Her salary will be $44,844.00, with benefits, based on a MA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new PSEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Valerie Korsak as a TPE Kindergarten Teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, effective August 27, 2008.  Her salary will be $41,703.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 2, Year 2 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new PSEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Cassandra Gerancher as a TPE Grade 2 Teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, effective August 27, 2008.  Her salary will be $41,703.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 2, Year 2 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new PSEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Jean Anderson as a TPE Grade 4 Elementary Teacher at Moore Elementary School, effective August 27, 2008.  Her salary will be $46,200.00, with benefits, based on a MA degree and Step 5, Year 5 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new PSEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Ryan Brobst as a TPE Guidance Counselor at the High School, effective August 27, 2008.  His salary will be $45,780.00, with benefits, based on a MA degree and Step 4, Year 4 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  His salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new PSEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Dan Benner as a TPE Social Studies Teacher at the Middle School, effective August 27, 2008.  His salary will be $41,703.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 2, Year 2 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  His salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new PSEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      List of teachers who may provide ESY - Chapter 15/Section 504 services during the summer of 2008, dependent upon need, in order to complete delivery of services for the 2007-2008 school year.

·      Attendance of Terry Leh at the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials (PASBO) School Operations Academy in State College PA on July  24-25, 2008, at an approximate cost of $660.00.

·      Vincent Sherpinsky as a TPE Business Education Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2008.  His salary will be $42,717.00, with benefits, based on a BA+15 degree and Step 3, Year 3 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  His salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new PSEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Temporary retroactive grading system to be applied to the grades previously earned by students in the classes of 2009, 2010, and 2011.  Implement the new grading system for all students beginning with the 2008-09 school year.

·      General construction change order for Perrotto Builders as part of the Siegfried Renovation project:

GC-03 - $ 902.00 - Credit/reimburse the MC for repairing the fuel tank vent due to damages by the General Contractor per RFP MC-007.

·      Mechanical change order for Guy M. Cooper as part of the George Wolf Renovation project:

MC-01 - $1,466.20 - Remove and replace damaged insulation in classrooms due to roof leak as per RFP MC-06.

·      Settlement agreement for a special education student as drafted and recommended by the District special education legal counsel.  The agreement covers the 2007-2008, 2008-2009, and 2009-2010 school years at an estimated net cost (after reimbursement) of $131,006.00.

·      Treasurer’s Report.

·      Bills for Payment.

·      Purchase and implementation of Numara Track-IT Professional at a cost of $16,207.38.

·      Adoption of the Realty Transfer Tax Resolution under the provisions of Article XI-D of the Tax Reform Code of 1971 (72 P.S. §8101-D et seq.).

·      Acceptance of the gaming money to reduce property taxes and set the homestead/ farmstead exclusion at the same calculated amount.

·      Awarding of the FY2008-09 Supply and Equipment bids for art, audio visual, cleaning, maintenance, general supplies, general art, health, industrial arts, physical education, computer and duplicating to various vendors at a total cost of $134,088.96.

·      Service contract with CIU20 to provide Title I services for non-public Northampton Area School District students attending Our Lady of Hungary School and Sacred Heart School for the 2007-08 school year at a cost not to exceed $14,000.00.

·      Adoption of the following resolution: RESOLVED, that the Board of School Directors approve a second extension of the original 1967 Articles of Agreement of Northampton County Area Community College for an additional thirty (30) consecutive fiscal years, commencing on July 1, 2026, and that the President and Secretary of the School Board be authorized to sign the Second Amendment to Articles of Agreement of the Northampton County Area Community College attached hereto.

·      Appointment of the following nominees as Trustees to the Northampton Community College for the period of July 1, 2008 - June 30, 2014: Bethlehem ASD - Mrs. Charlene A. Koch, Easton ASD - Dr. Brooks Betts II, Nazareth ASD - Mr. Bruce A. Palmer, Northampton ASD - Mr. Nicholas F. Politi, Jr., and Saucon Valley SD - Mr. Bruce M. Browne.
