At the regular meeting of the Board of Education, Mark Thompson, MKSD Architects, presented the architect report.  Chris Haller, D’Huy Engineering, presented the engineer report.  Ms. Erdo presented the Legislative and CIU20 reports.  Mr. Gogel presented the Facilities Committee report.   

 

The Board approved the following:

 

·      Resignation of Matthew Link from the position of Assistant Director of Special Education in District Administration, effective the end of the day June 20, 2008.

·      Resignation of Nancy Frey from the position of Cafeteria Monitor at Lehigh Elementary School, effective the end of the day May 30, 2008.

·      Termination of temporary assignments, effective at the end of the school day, June 6, 2008.

·      Additions and deletions to the Substitute List.

·      Resignation of Charles Wagner, Custodian at George Wolf Elementary School, for the purpose of retirement, effective July 31, 2008.

·      Revised list of summer school instructors and their reimbursement based on the current Supplemental Reimbursement for Extra Services - Curriculum and Instruction.  Effective date of the program will be from June 20, 2008, through August 1, 2008.

·      Christine Procopio as a TPE Math Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2008.  Her salary will be $42,717.00, with benefits, based on a BA+15 degree and Step 3, Year 3 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Kelly Augustine as a TPE Social Studies Teacher at the Middle School, effective August 27, 2008, pending receipt of PA certification.  Her salary will be $41,550.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Brian Davies as a TPE Social Studies Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2008.  His salary will be $42,503.00, with benefits, based on a BA +15 degree and Step 2, Year 2 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  His salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Andrew Peartree as a TPE Science Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2008.  His salary will be $42,230.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 4, Year 4 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  His salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Attendance of Brian R. Leskowich at the PA School Bus Association Transportation Conference in Champion, PA, on June 23-24, 2008, at an approximate cost of $809.00.

·      Tara Mushko as the After-Prom Committee Chairperson, effective for the 2007-2008 school year, at a revised stipend of $1,000.00.

·      Megan McHugh as a TPE School Nurse at Lehigh Elementary, effective August 27, 2008.  Her salary will be $41,550.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Tammy Vajda as a TPE Physical Education Teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, effective August 27, 2008.  Her salary will be $41,703.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 2, Year 2 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Kristy Benner as a TPE Math Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2008, pending receipt of PA certification and updated and acceptable Act 114 Fingerprint clearance.  Her salary will be $41,550.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Megan Mielczarek as a TPE English Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2008.  Her salary will be $44,844.00, with benefits, based on a MA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Attendance of Dr. Linda Firestone at the CIU20 Summer Administrative Workshop from August 6-8, 2008, at Split Rock Resort in Lake Harmony, PA at a total cost of $604.22.   

·      Lauren Anderson as a TPE French Teacher at the High School, effective August 27, 2008.  Her salary will be $41,703.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 2, Year 2 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Attendance of Kathy Chartier, English Teacher and Yearbook Advisor, and six female yearbook students at the Jostens Summer Conference at Gettysburg College on July 27-29, 2008 at a total cost to the district not to exceed $3,075.00.

·      Patrice Turner as Principal of the Middle School, effective date will be when released from present school district, pending receipt of updated Act 34 and Act 151 clearances.   Salary will be $93,000.00 annually, with benefits, and in accordance with the Act 93 Agreement.

·      List of teachers for the elementary summer program from June 24, 2008 - July 24, 2008, at the appropriate contracted curriculum rate, pending approval of the 2008-2009 budget.

·      Attendance of Donna Teklits at the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials (PASBO) Steel Eagle Leadership Institute July 17-18, 2008, in Gettysburg, PA.  All costs are paid by PASBO.

·      Adoption of Policy 212 - Reporting Student Progress, effective July 1, 2008, and the deletion of Policy 6:08 - Numerical Grading Policy for Secondary Education (found in the Board Policy Book as Policy 212), effective June 30, 2008.

·      Proposal for changing the grading scale and GPA conversions for the Middle School, to be effective for the 2008-2009 school year.

·      Acceptance of PDE approval of PlanCon Part K: Project Refinancing for the 2008 Refunding Issue, which partially refunded the 2002 and the 2003 Series.  

·      Acceptance of PDE approval of PlanCon Part I: Interim Reporting #8 for the HS Renovation/Additions Project No. 3179.

·      Change orders, as approved by PDE, for the High School project:

MC-04 - $10,103.96 - Additional work required by the mechanical contractor to remove portions of the existing concrete foundation wall for the installation of the new mechanical louvers in Mechanical E001 and E004 per PCO-012R.  Mechanical - Worth and Company.

GC-53 - $10,708.40 - Replace existing stage curtains per the Owner’s request. General Construction - Boro Construction.

·      Bills for Payment.

·      Awarding of the 2008-2009 Fuel Bid as follows:

- #2 Fuel Oil (Truck Transport) @ $0.0475 plus rack/gallon to Farm & Home (Buckeye Energy)

- #2 Fuel Oil (Tank Wagon) @ $0.12 plus rack/gallon to Express Heating Oil

- #87 Unleaded Gasoline @ $0.29 plus rack/gallon to Inergy Propane (Farm & Home)

- Ultra-Low Sulphur Diesel (Tank Wagon) @ $0.27 plus rack/gallon to Inergy Propane (Farm & Home)

- Off-Road Diesel (Tank Wagon) @ $0.27 plus rack/ gallon to Inergy Propane (Farm & Home)

- Winter Additive for Diesel @ $0.025 add-on per gallon to Inergy Propane (Farm & Home)

·      2007-08 Budget Transfers.

·      Payment of $11,250 to Mary Immaculate Center for the use of their facility.    

·      Tax Exonerations.

·      Seven-day contract with the Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 for a One-to-One Instructional Assistant to provide services for a Northampton Area School District student diagnosed with Autism in the IU Autistic Support classroom at Lehigh Elementary School.

·      Payment of $500.00 to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for the use of their building for the remainder of the 2007/2008 fiscal year.    

·      Authorization for the Administration to negotiate a Lease Agreement with the Bethlehem Area School District for the lease of the former Northeast Middle School, 1170 Fernwood Street, situate in the City of Bethlehem, County of Northampton, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, 18018, subject to the Board’s solicitor’s review and final approval by the Board.
