At the regular meeting of the Board of Education, Silvia Hoffman, MKSD Architects, and Chris Haller, D’Huy Engineering, reviewed change orders on the construction projects.    Ms. Erdo presented the Nazareth COG report.  Mrs. Rundle presented the Policy Committee report.  Nick Politi presented the NCC report.

 

The Board approved the following:

 

·      District Volunteer master listing for the 2008-2009 school year.

·      Resignation of Christine Wittreich from the position of Special Education Instructional Assistant at Washington Elementary School, effective August 6, 2008.

·      Resignation of Sherri Burke from the position of Nova NET Instructional Assistant at the High School, effective August 26, 2008.

·      Resignation of Lisa Tomolonis Sipler from the position of Grade 2 Elementary Teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, effective August 19, 2008.

·      Resignation of Denise Woodhull from the position of One-to-One Special Education Instructional Assistant, effective August 12, 2008.

·      Voluntary transfer of Nicole Duncan from Grade 3 Teacher at Siegfried Elementary School to IST Math Teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, effective August 27, 2008. 

·      Voluntary transfer of Ann Haldaman-Dremock from Grade 4 Teacher at Moore Elementary School to IST Math Teacher at Moore Elementary School, effective August 27, 2008. 

·      Substitute Lists for 2008-09.

·      Involuntary transfer of Carolyn Albright from Grade 2 at Lehigh Elementary School to Grade 1 at Lehigh Elementary School for the 2008-09 school year.

·      Involuntary transfer of Cheri Voth from Grade 1 at George Wolf Elementary school to Grade 2 at George Wolf Elementary School for the 2008-09 school year.

·      Involuntary transfer of Cassandra Gerancher from Grade 2 at George Wolf Elementary School to Kindergarten at Moore Elementary School for the 2008-09 school year.

·      Ryan Brobst, PE Guidance Counselor at the High School, effective August 27, 2008.  His salary will be $45,780.00, with benefits, based on a MA degree and Step 4, Year 4 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  His salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Attendance of Board Members Jane Erdo and Darin Arthofer at the PASA/PSBA School Leadership Conference in Hershey, PA October 14-17, 2008, at a cost not to exceed $2,242.26.

·      Karen Baldanza as a LTS Special Education Teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, effective August 27, 2008, through on or about December 1, 2008.  Her salary will be $221.01, per diem without benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Deborah MacKenzie as a Custodian (3rrd shift) at the High School, effective August 19, 2008.  Her salary will be $14.81 per hour, 80% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.

·      Creation of two IST Math positions at the elementary schools to be funded with Title I funds.

·      Nancy Stover as a Special Education Instructional Assistant in the Borough, effective August 27, 2008.  Her salary will be $9.95 per hour, 85% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.  

·      Debra Weeast as a One-to-One Special Education Instructional Assistant at the Middle School, effective August 27, 2008.  Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of updated and acceptable Acts 151 and 114 FBI Fingerprint clearances.  Her salary will be $9.36 per hour, 80% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.  

·      List of mentors and payments for the 2008-2009 school year.  Mentor salaries will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Alexis Donnangelo as a TPE Grade 4 Elementary Teacher at Moore Elementary School, effective August 27, 2008, or when released from current employer.  Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of updated and acceptable Act 114 FBI clearance. Her salary will be $42,230.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 4, Year 4 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Jennifer Knauer as a PE Grade 3 Elementary Teacher at Siegfried Elementary School, effective August 27, 2008, or when released from current employer.  Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of updated and acceptable Acts 151 and 114 clearances.  Her salary will be $47,000.00, with benefits, based on a MA degree and Step 6, Year 6 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Natalie Abraham as a TPE Grade 5 Elementary Teacher at Siegfried Elementary, effective August 27, 2008, or when released from current employer.  Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of updated and acceptable Acts 151 and 114 clearances.  Her salary will be $41,703.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 2, Year 2 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      New and revised curricula:  K Readiness Skills Curriculum (Grade K), K Math Concepts Review for Beginning Grade 1 Curriculum (Grade 1), U.S. Regions and Cultural World Geography (Grade 5), and Computer Graphics Curriculum (Grades 9-12).

·      Acceptance of the approval of PlanCon Part I: Interim Reporting #10 for the High School Renovation/Additions Project No. 3179.

·      Electrical change orders for The Farfield Company as part of the High School Renovation/Additions project:

EC-54 - $   493.47 - Provide and install power for the exhaust fan in E143d per RFP EC-23 and COR 109.

EC-55 - $2,001.00 - Provide and install a starter for EF-30 per RFI EC-178 and COR 136.

EC-56 - $1,281.00 - Provide and install a fire alarm monitoring for tamper switch per RFI EC-191 and COR 144.

EC-57 - $1,617.00 - Provide and install three (3) additional exit signs as required by the Code Official and per RFP EC-29 and COR 146.

EC-58 - $4,003.00 - Re-install Auditorium high hat fixtures per ATP E-8 and COR 147; not included in the original contract.

EC-59 - $   664.00 - Remove and re-install light between column’s M1 and M2 due to the reconstruction of the exterior front wall per RFI EC-198 and COR 153.

EC-60 - $   711.00 - Provide and install two (2) additional exit signs due to existing conditions and Code Officials’ requirements in E106 and E120 per ASI EC-18 and COR 165.

EC-61 - $2,348.00 - Provide and install new power and CATV to new TV locations in E106 and E125 per RFI EC-208 and COR 168.

EC-62 - $1,195.00 - Provide and install two (2) additional receptacles in E133 and E134 per RFI EC-211 and COR 170. 

·      Authorization for the administration to submit PlanCon Part I: Interim Reporting - Submittal No. 11 for the High School Renovation/Addition Project No. 3179.

·      General construction change orders for Bracy Contracting, Inc. as part of the George Wolf Renovation project:

GC-02 - $10,119.92 - Rock excavation and to fill sink hole per COR GC-56 and COR GC-57.

GC-03 - $21,533.22 - Removal of ceilings at Pod A, 1st and 2nd floors per COR GC-61-M.

·      Plumbing construction change order for Jay R. Reynolds, Plumbing Contractor, as part of the George Wolf Renovation project:

PC-01- Mold Remediation - $5,690.00 - Demolition of water mains in corridor of the 1967 building.  Refer to RFP PC-03 dated 5/28/08; JRRI letter dated 6/13/08.

·      General construction change orders for Boro Construction as part of the High School Renovation/Additions project:

GC-65 - $5,455.78 - Revise the door swing of door N158-C per the Owner’s request and RFP GC-84.

GC-66 - $4,086.40 - Revise the existing ticket booth window.

·      Treasurer’s Report.

·      Bills for Payment.

·      Tax Exonerations.

·      Renewal agreement with K12 Systems, Inc. of Allentown, for software licensing, support, and hosting at a cost of $76,320 for 2008-2009 school year.

·      Contract with the Colonial Intermediate Unit for a One-to-One Instructional Assistant to provide services for a Northampton Area School District student diagnosed with Autism in the IU Autistic Support classroom at Lehigh Elementary School.

·      Law Enforcement Liability Insurance coverage by Scottsdale Insurance Company at a cost of $7,022.82 for the period of September 5, 2008, to September 5, 2009.

·      Contract with Kimberly Flounders, certified Wilson Reading Instructor, for the 2008-2009 school year at a cost not to exceed $6,400.00.

·      Contract between the Northampton Area School District and Dr. Kenneth Cressman as the Diversified Occupations Program Supervisor for the 2008-2009 school year.  Dr. Cressman will be paid $260.00 per day, plus expenses, for a maximum of 95 days.  The contract will terminate on June 30, 2009.

·      2008-09 Ala Carte prices for the Lunch Program.
