At a special meeting of the Board of Education on August 25, 2008, the Board approved the following:

 

·      Resignation of Stephen Serensits from the position of Grade 6 Elementary Teacher at Lehigh Elementary School, effective August 26, 2008.

·      Daniel Kelly as a Grade 6 Elementary Teacher, effective August 27, 2008.  Salary will be $41,550.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule.  Salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Authorization for the administration to submit PlanCon I: Interim Reporting - Submittal No. 2 for the George Wolf Renovation Project No. 3296 and approve the low bidders as contracts.

·      Agreement and Release in lieu of FAPE and the Addendum to Settlement Agreement and Release dated December 4, 2007, for a special education student.

 

At the regular meeting of the Board of Education on September 8, 2008, Mr. Hume presented an overview of the HS Gifted Program.  Mrs. Rundle presented the Athletic Facilities Committee report.  Mr. Gogel presented the Facilities Committee and BAVTS reports. 

 

The Board approved the following:

 

·      Revised job description for School Police Officer/Attendance Officer, effective September 9, 2008.

·      Resignation of Matthew Rumfield from the position of Assistant Coach for Boys & Girls Cross Country, effective August 8, 2008.

·      Resignation of Jeffrey Miller from the position of Security Officer, effective August 27, 2008.

·      Resignation of Catherine Stampone from the position of Part-Time Reading Instructional Assistant at George Wolf Elementary School, effective August 13, 2008.

·      Resignation of Patricia Thornton, Business Education Teacher at the High School, for the purpose of retirement, effective December 23, 2008.

·      Unpaid leave of absence for Margaret Archer, Instructional Assistant at Franklin Elementary School, beginning September 19, 2008, through on or about November 6, 2008.

·      Resignation of Rachael Suranofsky from the position of Cafeteria Monitor, effective August 26, 2008.

·      Resignation of William Hirst from the position of Natatorium Aide at the Middle School and Head Swimming Coach, effective September 16, 2008.

·      Additions and deletions to the Substitute List.

·      Professional status and tenure for the following teachers who have completed three (3) years of teaching and have received six (6) satisfactory evaluations:

·      Susan Lischner as a TPE Elementary Itinerant Strings Music Teacher at Moore, George Wolf and Lehigh Elementary Schools, effective retroactive to August 27, 2008, or

       when released from present employer.  Her salary will be $42,717.00, with benefits, based on a BA +15 degree and Step 3, Year 3 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary

       will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Katie Donschietz as a LTS Social Studies Teacher at the Middle School, effective retroactive to August 27, 2008, through on or about October 31, 2008.  Her salary will be $221.01, per diem without benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Ernest Luengen as a Security Officer, effective retroactive to September 2, 2008.  Salary will be $15.50 per hour, without benefits.   Rate may need to be adjusted upon settlement of the security contract.

·      List of staff and their compensation for After-School Detention at the High School and Middle School and Activity Bus for the 2008-09 school year (September through the end of the academic year in June).  No additional benefits will be provided.  The teacher salaries will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Daniel Benner as Assistant Boys & Girls Cross Country Coach at the Middle School, effective retroactive to August 11, 2008, with 2 years experience at a compensation of 85% of the current district supplemental reimbursement of $2,341.00, totaling $1,989.85.  His salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Pier Richan as Head Girls Soccer Coach at the High School, effective September 9, 2008, with 5+ years experience at a compensation of 100% of the current district supplemental reimbursement of $6,060.00.  His salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      List of mentors and payments for the 2008-2009 school year.  Mentor salaries will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Stipend of $3,637.00 for Patricia Gaetaniello to continue as Community Education Coordinator for the 2008-2009 school year and an hourly rate of $8.24 for Mary Fabian to continue as Community Education Secretary for the 2008-2009 school year. 

·      Pearson/Prentice Hall textbook Concise Anthology of American Literature.  Each student textbook costs $55.97, for a total cost of $1,679.10.

·      General construction change orders for Perrotto Builders as part of the Col. John Siegfried Renovation project:

GC-18 - $10,357.82 - Additional cost to remove pre-installed hardware from previously installed doors in Building “B” and install new intruder locksets; and remove pre-installed hardware from new doors delivered for Building “A” and install new intruder locks per the Owner’s request.

GC-19 - ($1,600.00) - Credit to General Contractor for work completed by Palmer Nursery for the removal of 40 cu. yd. of existing mulch and building waste products and the installation of 40 cu. yd. of new mulch at the playground area.

·      Acceptance of the approval of PlanCon Part I: Interim Reporting #2 for the George Wolf Elementary School Renovation/Additions Project No. 3296.

·      Acceptance of the approval of PlanCon Part I: Interim Reporting #11 for the High School Renovation/ Additions Project No. 3179.

·      Change order for Boro Construction, General Contractor, as approved by PDE for the High School project:

        GC-64 - $23,813.56 - Provide all materials and labor to upgrade the back stage wall and the Music/Stage storage room walls to carry a one (1) hour fire rating per the Code Officials requirements and per RFP GC-263.

·      General construction change orders for Boro Construction as part of the High School Renovation/Additions project:

        GC-67 - $1,985.82 - Provide and install metal stud/ GWB caps on the two existing chases located on Stage E105a per the Code Officials requirements and RFP GC-262.

        GC-68 - $6,957.35 - Provide and install metal handrails in Auditorium E105 as required by the Code Official and per RFP GC-266.

·      63-month lease agreement with Pitney Bowes for Model DM575 Mailing System, for $249 a month.

·      Bills for Payment.

·      “In Lieu of FAPE Agreement” for a special education student.

·      Reappointment of the following Northampton Area Public Library Trustees until December 31, 2010, at the recommendation of the NAPL Board of Trustees:

         -  Jane Yagerhoffer, 5890 Green Meadow Road, Bath, PA 18014

         -  Robert Koch, 3557 Howertown Road, Northampton, Pa.  18067

·      Foreign Exchange placement of Lisa Kuehnberger as a student at Northampton Area High School for the 2008-2009 school year.

·      Continuation of the Community Education Program for the 2008-2009 school year, with the understanding that only courses that cover all expenses of the program will be offered.  There will be no cost to the district.
