At the regular meeting of the Board of Education, Curt Dimmick recognized student achievements.  A hearing was held for the Thomas Paine Charter School.  Ms. Erdo presented the Nazareth COG, CIU20, and Legislative reports.  Mrs. Rundle presented the Athletic Facilities and Safe School Committee reports.  Mr. Gogel presented the Facilities Committee report.  Nicholas Politi presented the NCC report.  Stephen Serensits presented an update on Student Council activities.    

 

The Board approved the following:

 

·      Unpaid leave of absence for Linda Troxell, Cafeteria Monitor at Moore Elementary School, effective September 15, 2008, to September 30, 2008.

·      Additions to the District Volunteer master listing for the 2008-09 school year: Alexis Ashcraft - Borough; Darrell Crook - Odyssey of the Mind, Jennifer Fandl - Borough, Chavon Lenhart - HS Indoor Twirling, and Beth Smith - Lehigh.

·      Additions and deletions to the Substitute List.

·      Revised listings for extra-curricular & supplemental positions for the 2008-2009 school year, effective July 1, 2008, through June 30, 2009.  Upon settlement of the naea collective bargaining agreement, a revised listing will be brought to the board for approval.

·      Voluntary transfer of LeeAnn Hildebrand from Hall Monitor at the High School to One-to-One Special Education Instructional Assistant at the High School, effective retroactive to September 11, 2008.  Her salary will be $9.95 per hour, 85% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, with benefits. 

·      Andrea Orlando as a Special Education Instructional Assistant at Lehigh Elementary School, effective October 7, 2008.  Her salary will be $9.36 per hour, 80% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.  

·      Adam Nickischer as a Skilled Maintenance Person, effective on or about October 7, 2008.  His continued employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable Acts 151 and 114 clearances.  His hourly rate will be $19.69, 90% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the current collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.   

·      Erica Berkheimer as a LTS Kindergarten Teacher at Moore Elementary, effective on or about November 3, 2008, through on or about February 6, 2009. Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of updated and acceptable Act 114 FBI clearance.  Her salary will be $238.53, per diem without benefits, based on a MA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Theresa Watt as a PE Business Education Teacher at the High School, effective December 22, 2008.  Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable Acts 34, 151 & 114 clearances. Her salary will be $43,030.00, with benefits, based on a BA +15 degree and Step 4, Year 4 of the 2007-08 salary schedule.  Her salary will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      M. Elizabeth Winchester as a Temporary AVOPP Instructional Assistant at the High School, effective retroactive to September 24, 2008 for the 2008-2009 school year.  Her salary will be $9.36 per hour, 80% of the current hourly rate, with support staff benefits.  Salary and benefits will be partially funded through the Alternative Education Grant with the remainder paid with district funds.

·      Roxann Martuscelli as a Cafeteria Monitor at the High School, effective retroactive to September 29, 2008.  Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of updated and acceptable Acts 34, 151 & 114 clearances.  Her salary will be $9.36 per hour, 80% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, without benefits.   

·      Suzan Hall as a Cafeteria Monitor at the High School, effective October 7, 2008.  Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable Acts 34, 151 & 114 clearances.  Her salary will be $9.36 per hour, 80% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, without benefits.   

·      Matthew Rumfield as a Natatorium Aide at the Middle School, effective retroactive to September 29, 2008.  Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of updated and acceptable Acts 151 and 114 clearances.  His salary will be $9.36 per hour, 80% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.  

·      List of instructors and compensation to conduct after-school remediation under the EAP Grant guidelines.  The effective date is October 22, 2008, through March 31, 2009.  Their hourly rates will be adjusted upon the settlement of the new NAEA collective bargaining agreement.

·      Position of a Secondary (Grades 7-12) Emotional Support Teacher, effective October 7, 2008.

·      Position of a Secondary (Grades 7-12) Special Education Instructional Assistant for the new Emotional Support class, effective October 7, 2008.

·      Awarding of the bid for the purchase of a Used 2004 Freightliner Truck Chassis with accessories to Horwith Trucks, Inc. of Northampton at a cost of $55,998.00.

·      Continuation of the five (5) year service contract with Thyssen Krupp Elevator for the period of October 1, 2006 - September 30, 2011, as adjusted:

Siegfried Elementary School:

2006/07 Year 1 = $1,513.20                                   

2007/08 Year 2 = $1,573.73                                   

2008/09 Year 3 = $1,636.68 - $616.18 = $1020.00 (two wheelchair lifts removed)  

2009/10 Year 4 = $1,702.14 - $616.18 = $1085.96 (two wheelchair lifts removed) 

2010/11 Year 5 = $1,770.23 - $616.18 = $1154.05 (two wheelchair lifts removed)

High School - Service for two (2) Elevators:

2006/07 Year 1 = $756.60 

2007/08 Year 2 = $786.86

2008/09 Year 3 = $818.34 + $900    = $1718.34 (add of one additional elevator)

2009/10 Year 4 = $851.07 + $954    = $1805.07 (add of one additional elevator)

2010/11 Year 5 = $885.11 + $1,011 = $1,896.11 (add of one additional elevator)

·      General construction change order for Bracey Contracting as part of the George Wolf construction project:

GC-04 - Installation of an inverted filter in the newly constructed parking lot at George Wolf Elementary School at an estimated cost of $45,000.00.

·      Authorization for Berkheimer Outsourcing, Inc., Bangor, to prepare and mail the homestead applications on behalf of Northampton Area School District in accordance with Act 72 of 2004 and Act 1 of 2006 at a rate of $0.270 each, in accordance with the proposal.

·      Annual Maintenance Agreements with F & E Business Systems, Shillington PA, for the check signers at EIT and the Business Office, for the period 10/7/08 - 10/7/09 at a cost of $387.50 each.

·      2008-2009 Budget Transfers.

·      Hourly fees for D’Huy Engineering, Inc. and MKSD Architects for the mold remediation at George Wolf Elementary School.

·      Addendum to the Settlement Agreement and Release for a Special Education Student.

·      Bills for Payment.
