At the regular meeting of the Board of Education, Scott Shearer, PFM, reviewed bond series refinancing.          

 

The Board approved the following:

 

      Job description for Elementary Head Teacher, effective January 27, 2009.

      Job description for the Special Education Lead Teacher and authorization for the administration to fill the position.

      Addition to the District Volunteer master listing for the 2008-09 school year: Sueann Hankee - Lehigh.

      Additions and deletions to the Substitute List.

      Revised list of Department Chairs for the 2008-2009 school year, effective July 1, 2008, through June 30, 2009.

      Attendance of Jeffrey Lantzer, High School Band Director, at the Pennsylvania Music Educators State Conference to be held April 22-24, 2009, in Valley Forge, PA, at a cost not to exceed $570.00.

      Attendance of Tara Mrazik, Julia Kline, Ann Harrington, Tara Mushko, Theresa Barrall, Rich Silvius, Martin Lynn, Robert Steckel, and John Blick at the PA DECA State Conference, along with 91 DECA students, on February 18-20, 2009, in Hershey, PA at a maximum cost to the district of $18,876.99.

      Professional status and tenure for the following teachers who have completed three years of teaching in Northampton Area School District and have received six satisfactory evaluations: Nicole Duncan - George Wolf, Diane Follweiler - Middle School, Sally Kozma - High School, and Jessica Persa - Lehigh.

      Attendance of Jane Erdo, Board Member and PSBA Legislative Liaison, at the PSBA Legislative Advocacy Conference in Harrisburg, PA on April 26-27, 2009, at an estimated cost of $517.09.

      Memorandum of Agreement with the Northampton Area Security Association for the term July 1, 2008, through June 30, 2011.

      J. Scott Hatfield as a Skilled Maintenance Person, effective January 27, 2009.  His continued employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable Act 151 clearance.  His hourly rate will be $19.69, 90% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the current collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.

      Continuation of Erica Berkheimer as a LTS Kindergarten Teacher at Moore Elementary School, effective February 9, 2009, through the end of the 2008-09 school year.  Her salary will be $45,765.00, pro-rated with benefits, based on a MA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the 2008-09 salary schedule. 

      Jennifer Del Valle as a LTS Grade 1 Teacher at Lehigh Elementary School, effective on or about March 9, 2009, for the remainder of the 2008-09 school year.  Her salary will be $229.81, per diem without benefits, based on a BA +15 degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule. 

      Jeff Lantzer, HS Band Director, and 65 students in the HS Marching  Band to participate in the Apple Blossom Festival and Competition in Winchester, VA, from April 30 through May 3, 2009 at a total cost to district of $6,900.00.

      Breann Shuryn as a One-to-One Special Education Instructional Assistant at the High School, effective retroactive to January 22, 2009.  Her continued employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable Act 114 FBI clearance.  Her hourly rate will be $9.36, 80% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the current collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.   

      Mark Jonkman, MS Band Director, Ryan Mertz, MS Orchestra Director, Joely Pearn, MS Guard Instructor, and 130 students in the MS Band and Orchestra to participate in the Showcase Music Festival in Hershey, PA, on May 22, 2009, at a total cost to the district of $10,400.00.

      Brad Steigerwalt, MS Chorus Director, and 70 students in the MS Chorus to participate in the Showcase Music Festival in Manasquan, NJ, on May 16, 2009, at a total cost to the district of $5,740.00.

      Adoption of the following policies, effective January 27, 2009: 516 - School Police Officers/School Security Personnel, 618 - Student Activity Funds, and 907 - School Visitors, and the deletion of Policy 3:08 - Student Activity Fund Operations, effective January 27, 2009.

      General construction change orders for Bracy Contracting, Inc. as part of the George Wolf Renovation project:

GC-11 - $3,574.72 - Remediation of the sink hole at south corner of parking lot on 9-29-08 per COR-94 in the amount of $1,661.91; and remediation of the sink hole at the south corner of the parking lot on 12-16-08 per COR-105 in the amount of $1,912.81.

GC-12 - ($40,000) - CREDIT change order for providing bullnose finish on all outside corners of the CMU with epoxy paint from floor to ceiling and vinyl cove base in lieu of ceramic wall tile and base in the corridors per COR-89, rev4.

      General construction change order for Boro Construction as part of the HS Renovation/Additions project:

GC-79 - $9,628.21- Provide and install all labor and materials to paint all of the existing exposed metal components in the existing stairwells as requested by the Owner.

      Treasurerís Report.

      Bills for Payment.

      Authorization for the administration to work with PFM for the issuance of General Obligation Bonds, Refunding Series of 2009, in the amount of $10,000,000 to refund the Refunding Series of 2002 and a portion of Series A of 2003.

      Special education services contract with CIU20 for the 2008-09 school year in the amount of $1,471,217.41.

      Tax Exonerations.

      Expulsion Hearing Waiver for High School student number 2009-01.
