At the regular meeting of the Board of Education, Anita Mateyak presented the FBLA winners.  Dr. Charlene Brennan presented the CIU20 2009-2010 General Operating Budget.  Mr. Kovalchik presented the Safe School and Athletic Facilities committee reports.  Ms. Erdo presented the legislative and CIU20 reports.  Mr. Gogel presented the Facilities committee report.  Mr. Koch presented the BAVTS report.  Mr. Nick Politi presented the NCC report.   

 

The Board approved the following:

 

·         Revision of William Conner’s effective date of his retirement to July 1, 2009.  His last day of work will be June 30, 2009.

·         Resignation of Jocelyn Schafer from the position of LTS Technology Teacher at Siegfried Elementary, effective the end of the day, March 6, 2009.

·         Unpaid leave of absence for Donna Knoblach, 12-Month Secretary in the district administration building, beginning February 19, 2009, through June 30, 2009. 

·         Resignation of Rose Chamberlain, 12-Month Secretary at Lehigh Elementary School, for the purpose of retirement, effective at the end of the day, July 6, 2009.

·         Updated job descriptions for the following positions: Custodian, Lead Custodian, Semi-Skilled Maintenance, and Skilled Maintenance.

·      Resignation of Maryann Muschlitz from the position of 12-Month Secretary at the High School, effective the end of the day, March 12, 2009.

·      Resignation of Debra Zietlow from the position of Cafeteria Monitor at the Middle School, effective the end of the day, March 13, 2009.

·      Voluntary transfer of Gretchen Troxell from Special Education Teacher to Special Education Lead Teacher at the High School, effective March 10, 2009. 

·      Additions to the District Volunteer master listing for the 2008-09 school year: Doreen Davidson - George Wolf, Leslie Kemmerer - Moore, Joseph McShane - Borough, Donna Reuter - Lehigh, and Meghan Wolfer - Athletic.

·      Professional staff transfers effective with the 2009-2010 school year.

·      Additions and deletions to the Substitute List.

·      Beth Borelli as a Special Education Instructional Assistant at the Middle School, effective retroactive to February 27, 2009.  Her hourly rate will be $9.36, 80% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the current collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.   

·      Donna Cesanek as a Temporary One-to-One Special Education Instructional Assistant at Siegfried Elementary School, effective March 10, 2009, for the remainder of the 2008-09 school year.  Her hourly rate will be $9.36, 80% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the current collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.   

·      Attendance of Brian Dravecz, Assistant Network Specialist, at system administration technical training at Lancaster-Lebanon IU 13, from July 27-31, 2009, at an approximate cost of $1,001.50.

·      Nicole Jones and Mandi Smith, Dance Team Coaches, to chaperone nine students who will participate in the Dance Championship Competition to be held in Wildwood, NJ, on April 30 - May 3, 2009, at an approximate cost to the district of $1,520.00.

·      Jennifer Miller, Twirler Coach, to chaperone thirteen students who will participate in the TIA Twirling All Chapter  Championship Competition to be held in Wildwood, NJ, on April 30 - May 3, 2009, at an approximate cost to the district of $1,610.00.

·      David Gradwohl as a District Floating Custodian, effective March 10, 2009.  His hourly rate will be $14.81, 80% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the current collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.   

·      Anne Lutz as an Assistant Softball Coach, effective March 10, 2009, with 0 years experience, at a compensation of 80% of one-half of the current district supplemental reimbursement, totaling $1,592.00. 

·      Attendance of Tara Mrazik, three additional chaperones (Tara Mushko, Martin Lynn and Richard Silvius), and 26 members of the Northampton Area High School DECA organization at the DECA ICDC (International Career Development Conference) competition in Anaheim, CA, on April 28 - May 4, 2009, at a total cost to the district of $19,528.64.

·      Edward Tierney IV as an Itinerant Special Education Instructional Assistant at Lehigh and Moore Elementary Schools, effective March 24, 2009.  His hourly rate will be $9.36, 80% of the current hourly rate, in accordance with the current collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.   

·      Program of Studies, with the attached changes, for the 2009-2010 school year. 

·      Awarding of a contract for project design, bid preparation/evaluation and engineering services for the replacement of the HVAC Building Automation Controls System at Moore Elementary School to D’Huy Engineering at a cost of $14,800. 

·      Awarding of a contract to D’Huy Engineering for project design, bid preparation/ evaluation and engineering services for the installation of a generator and meter replacement at the Administration Building at a cost of $9,800 with an hourly rate per the attached fee schedule for all site visits during construction, not to exceed a fee of $7,000.

·      Bills for Payment.

·      Acceptance of the 2007-08 Audit Report as prepared by the local auditors, Gorman & Associates.

·      Authorization for the administration to work with PFM for the issuance of General Obligation Bonds, Refunding Series A of 2009 to refund the Series of 2004 and Series A of 2003 when PFM can attain the target savings of no less than $200,000 or no less than 2%.

·      2008-2009 Budget Transfers.

·      Amendment to Northampton Area School District Contract for Medical Services with Dr. James F. Frommer of Bethlehem to serve as the District School Physician at an annual rate of $10,000.00. 

·      Appointment of James Schray and Neil Koch to the BAVTS Authority.  Mr. Schray’s term begins March 10, 2009, and expires January 2014.  Mr. Koch’s term begins March 10, 2009, and expires January 2012.

·      Expulsion Hearing Waiver for High School student number 2009-03.
