At the regular meeting of the Board of Education, Zach Williard, PFM, and Kevin Reid, Bond Counsel, presented information on the refunding of Series 2004 & Series A of 2003 General Obligation Bonds. Jane Erdo presented the COG and CIU20 reports. Nick Politi presented the NCC report.
The Board approved the following:
∑ Additions and deletions to the Substitute List.
∑ Resignation of Alice Casey, Special Education Teacher at Moore Elementary School, for the purpose of retirement, effective at the end of the day on October 6, 2009.
∑ Resignation of William Dovico from the position of English Teacher at the High School. The effective date of the resignation will be in accordance with the sixty (60) day holding provision, up to November 27, 2009, or the securing of his replacement, whichever comes first.
∑ Voluntary transfer of Robin Zamadics from Full-Time Special Education Classroom Teacher to Half-Time Special Education Lead Teacher / Half-Time Special Education Classroom Teacher at Moore Elementary School, effective October 13, 2009.
∑ Resignation of Nadine Lake from the position of Cafeteria Monitor at George Wolf Elementary School, effective at the end of the day on October 9, 2009.
∑ Resignation of Jeanette Cesanek, Assistant Girls Basketball Coach, effective October 6, 2009.
∑ Resignation of Joan Kremus, 12-Month Secretary to the Curriculum and Instruction Office in District Administration, for the purpose of retirement, effective at the end of the day, December 31, 2009.
∑ Additions to the District Volunteer master listing for the 2009-2010 school year: Sarah Barton - Borough, Cathleen Corrow - George Wolf, Amy Hower - Borough, Tammie Keich - Borough, Donna Irwin - George Wolf, Katie Malehorn - George Wolf, and Laura Nederostek - Lehigh.
∑ Termination of Scott Lindsay from the position of Assistant Boys Soccer Coach, effective retroactive to September 25, 2009, with a total compensation of $726.00 of his $1,452.00 salary.
∑ Professional status and tenure for Michele Orsulak, Borough Elementary School, who has completed three years of teaching and has received six satisfactory evaluations.
∑ Danielle Snyder as a TPE Half-Time Special Education Teacher at Moore Elementary School, effective October 13, 2009. Her salary will be $21,651.00, with benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule.
∑ Alexis Ashcraft as a Temporary Kindergarten Instructional Assistant at Franklin Elementary School, effective retroactive to October 6, 2009, for the remainder of the 2009-2010 school year. Her salary will be $9.74 per hour, 80% of the current hourly rate, with benefits.
∑ Dana Fentiman as Student Council Advisor at George Wolf Elementary School, effective for the 2009-2010 school year, with a total stipend of $413.00.
∑ James Karabasz as an Instructional Assistant at the High School, effective October 13, 2009. His hourly rate will be $9.74, 80% of the 2009-2010 hourly rate, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, with benefits.
∑ William Walakovits as Assistant Boys & Girls Swimming Coach, effective October 13, 2009, with 0 years experience at a compensation of 80% of the current district supplemental reimbursement, totaling $3,274.00.
∑ Matthew Frailey as Assistant Boys Basketball Coach, effective October 13, 2009, with 0 years experience at a compensation of 80% of the current district supplemental reimbursement, totaling $4,078.00.
∑ Jeanette Male as After Prom Committee Advisor at the High School, effective for the 2009-2010 school year, with a total stipend of $1,045.00.
∑ Jason Melniszyn as Assistant Boys Soccer Coach, effective retroactive September 28, 2009, for the remainder of the 2009-10 soccer season, at a compensation of $565.00 of the $1,452.00 current district supplemental reimbursement.
∑ Ryan Mertz, Orchestra Director, one female district chaperone, and fifty-three (53) students to attend/participate in the 2010 Big Apple Classic in New York City, NY from March 25-28, 2010. Total cost to the district will be approximately $4,650.00.
∑ Adoption of the following policies: 301 - Creating a Position, 317 - Conduct/ Disciplinary Procedures, 325 - Dress and Grooming, 401 - Creating a Position, 417 - Conduct/Disciplinary Procedures, 501 - Creating a Position, 517 - Conduct/Disciplinary Procedures, 525 - Dress and Grooming, and 709.1 - Building Security Cameras, effective October 13, 2009.
∑ Letter of Intent for Power Purchase Agreement between the Northampton Area School District and Metro Tek Electrical Services Company effective October 13, 2009.
∑ Authorization for Berkheimer Outsourcing, Inc., Bangor, to prepare and mail the homestead applications on behalf of Northampton Area School District in accordance with Act 72 of 2004 and Act 1 of 2006, at a rate of $0.278 each.
∑ Bills for Payment.
∑ 3M Library Systems service agreement for the High School Library at a total cost of $422.00 for the period of December 1, 2009, to November 30, 2010.
∑ 2009-10 Budget Transfers.
∑ Authorization for the issuance of General Obligation Bonds, Series A of 2009 in the amount not to exceed $12,080,000 to refund the Series of 2004 General Obligation Bonds and the Series A of 2003 General Obligation Bonds pursuant to the Local Government Unit Debt Act of 1996 and according to the Parameters Based Resolution, as long as the net savings target of 2% can be achieved.
∑ Awarding of an exclusive beverage agreement with Pepsi for a five year period that will begin December 1, 2009, subject to the Boardís solicitorís final review.
∑ Settlement Agreement between the Northampton Area Educatorsí Association and the Northampton Area School District, agreed upon by both parties on September 24, 2009, in a conciliation meeting.
∑ Donation of fitness equipment from The Class of 2009 to the high school. The approximate monetary donation from The Class of 2009 is $2,970.00.
∑ Expulsion Hearing Waiver for High School student number 2009-20.
∑ Denial of the application of the Thomas Paine Charter School.
∑ Expulsion Hearing Waiver for High School student number 2009-21.
