At the regular meeting of the Board of Education, Mr. Gorman presented the 2008-09 Audit Report. Dr. Firestone reported that January is School Director Recognition Month and Board members were presented with Certificates of Appreciation. Mrs. Skrapits presented the Technology Steering Committee report. Mr. Kovalchik presented the Policy Committee report. Ms. Erdo presented the CIU20 report. Mr. Gogel presented the BAVTS report. Mr. Politi presented the NCC report. Rachel Satow and Alyssa Figura presented the Student Council report.
The Board approved the following:
∑ Professional status and tenure for the following teachers who have completed three years of teaching and have received six satisfactory evaluations: Glenda Cuchran - Lehigh, Jennifer Fulfaro - Lehigh, Kimberly Butryn - High School, Hillary Hartzell - Moore, and Richelle Gestl - Borough.
∑ Unpaid childrearing leave for Sarah Wascura, Chemistry Teacher at the High School, for the period beginning approximately November 22, 2010, through the end of the 2010-11 school year.
∑ Resignation of Erin Williams from the position of AVOPP Aide at the High School, effective February 24, 2010.
∑ Additions and deletions to the Substitute List.
∑ Attendance of Dr. Linda Firestone at the 2010 CIU20 Superintendentís Winter Meeting on February 11-12, 2010, at The Hotel Hershey at an approximate cost of $350.00.
∑ Michael Sugra, Jr. as an Assistant Baseball Coach with 5 years of experience at a compensation of 100% of the current district supplemental reimbursement, totaling $4,158.00, no benefits, effective January 12, 2010.
∑ Attendance of Nicole Tucker at the Reading Apprenticeship Annual Winter Conference in Lafayette Hill, PA, on March 5-7, 2010, at an estimated cost of $1,703.90.
∑ Kelly Muschlitz as a LTS Grade 5 Teacher at Moore Elementary School, effective on or about February 8, 2010, through the end of the 2009-2010 school year. Her salary will be $230.33, per diem without benefits, based on a BA degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule.
∑ One-to-One Instructional Assistant Position for a student attending Lehigh Elementary School.
∑ Ryan Mertz, Orchestra Director, to accompany high school student, Melissa Lee, to the PMEA District 10 Orchestra Festival at Liberty High School on January 13 through January 16, 2010. The approximate cost to the district is $285.00.
∑ Carol Cunningham, Head Teacher at Siegfried Elementary School, effective January 12, 2010, with a stipend of $2,655.00, pro-rated for the remainder of the 2009-10 school year.
∑ Lindsay Makos as Musical Choreographer at the High School, effective January 12, 2010, with a total reimbursement of $2,230.00. Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable Act 151 clearance.
∑ Gerald Smale as a Skilled Maintenance Mechanic, effective January 25, 2010, or upon release from his current employer. Continued employment is contingent upon the receipt of acceptable Acts 34, 151 and 114 clearances. His rate of pay will be $20.48 per hour, with benefits, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
∑ Rescission of the transfer of Jessica Boandl to the Learning Support Special Education Teacher at Moore Elementary School, effective January 12, 2010.
∑ Option 1 Agreement for Engineering Services for Proposed New Construction for the Northampton Area School District Middle School between Northampton Area School District and DíHuy Engineering, Inc. effective January 12, 2010.
∑ Acceptance of PDE approval for PlanCon Part H: Project Financing for the George Wolf Elementary Renovations/Additions Project No. 3296.
∑ Service Electric Cable to provide TV cable service to Franklin, Siegfried, Washington, George Wolf, Moore, Middle School, High School, Administration and the
Maintenance Building at no cost to the District. Blue Ridge Cable to provide TV cable service to Lehigh Elementary at no cost to the District. Verbal agreement has
been made between the parties and we are awaiting a confirmation letter.
∑ 2009-2010 Budget Transfers.
∑ Awarding of the High School furniture purchase to P.E.M. Co. of Bethel Park, PA, in the amount of $41,119.
∑ Bills for Payment.
∑ Prepare and solicit annual bids for the following services and supplies: Maintenance/ Custodian Supplies, Instructional/General Supplies, Athletic Supplies, Gasoline/Diesel, and Fuel Oil/Natural Gas.
∑ 2008-09 Audit Report as prepared by the local auditors, Gorman & Associates.
∑ Adoption of the resolution relating to Act 1 certifying that the Board shall not increase any tax at a rate that exceeds the index as calculated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for the 2010-11 fiscal year.
∑ Plan Document and Summary Plan Description Amendment with the Employee Benefit Trust of Eastern PA for Autism Spectrum Disorders effective July 1, 2010.
∑ 2010-2011 NASD School Calendar and faculty meeting dates.
∑ Reappointment of Allen Collins, 2438 Fox Road, Nazareth, Pa. 18064 as a Northampton Area Public Library Trustee for the term of January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2012, at the recommendation of the NAPL Board of Trustees.
