At the regular meeting of the Board of Education, Dr. Charlene Brennan presented the CIU20 2010-11 General Operating Budget.  Lydia Hanner presented PDE awards to Curt Dimmick (Moore), Patrice Turner (Middle School), and Lori Kuhns (Borough Schools) for achieving Adequate Yearly Progress for two consecutive years.  Rachel Satow presented the Student Council report.  Mr. Kovalchik presented the Policy Committee and Safe Schools Committee reports.  Mr. Gogel presented the Facilities Committee and BAVTS reports.     

 

The Board approved the following:

 

      Resignation of Scott Beck, Indoor/Outdoor Guard Instructor, effective January 26, 2010.

      Resignation of Barbara Egerton, elementary teacher at Lehigh Elementary School for the purpose of retirement, effective June 9, 2010, or the last teacher day of the 2009-2010 school year.

      Resignation of Patricia Banks, elementary teacher at Siegfried Elementary School for the purpose of retirement, effective June 9, 2010, or the last teacher day of the 2009-2010 school year.

      Resignation of Sharon Cohen, Reading Specialist at Siegfried Elementary School for the purpose of retirement, effective June 9, 2010, or the last teacher day of the 2009-2010 school year.

      Resignation of Rick Mertz, Special Education Teacher at Lehigh Elementary School for the purpose of retirement, effective June 9, 2010, or the last teacher day of the 2009-2010 school year.

      Resignation of Debbie Marinelli, Elementary Teacher at Siegfried Elementary School for the purpose of retirement, effective June 9, 2010, or the last teacher day of the 2009-2010 school year.

      Resignation of Lois McAllister, Librarian at the Middle School for the purpose of retirement, effective June 9, 2010, or the last teacher day of the 2009-2010 school year.

      Resignation of Anne Zagarella, Science Teacher at the Middle School for the purpose of retirement, effective June 9, 2010, or the last teacher day of the 2009-2010 school year.

      Resignation of Sherrill Parry, Library Instructional Assistant at the Middle School for the purpose of retirement, effective June 8, 2010, or the last day of the 2009-2010 school year.

      Resignation of Sterling Ritter, German Teacher at the High School for the purpose of retirement, effective June 9, 2010, or the last teacher day of the 2009-2010 school year.

      Addition to the Athletic Event Staff master listing for the 2009-2010 school year, effective July 1, 2009, through June 30, 2010: William Fritz - Basketball Scorekeeper.

      Additions and deletions to the Substitute List.

      Three (3) year contract for Kyle Hutton as the Districtís Athletic Trainer, effective July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2013.

      Adjustment for Debra Butto to long-term non-certified substitute status, per Board Policy 505, effective retroactive to August 27, 2009.   This will adjust her hourly rate of pay to $9.74 per hour and provide single health benefits, effective January 22, 2010.

      Joana Spinelli as an Assistive Technology Assistant for the District, effective February 9, 2010Her rate of pay will be $14.80 per hour, with benefits, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

      Attendance/participation of Brad Steigerwalt, music teacher and Middle School Chorus Director, and 55 students in the 2010 Showcase Music Festival in Manasquan, NJ, on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at a total cost to the district of $2,475.00.

      Attendance of Kurt Paccio, Director of Technology, at the annual ISTE conference in Denver, CO from June 26 - 30, 2010, with an approximate cost of $1,298.

      Quinn Pagano as a LTS Special Education Teacher at Siegfried Elementary School, effective on or about February 17, 2010, through the end of the 2009-2010 school year.  Her salary will be $234.59, per diem without benefits, based on a Bachelorís +15 degree and Step 1, Year 1 of the current salary schedule. 

      Re-classification of the Secretary to the Director of Operations position to Category 1 - Group B position in the ESPA collective bargaining agreement, as per the Memorandum of Agreement, and the revised job description for this position.

      Mary Kintz as a Temporary One-on-One Special Education Instructional Assistant at Lehigh Elementary, effective February 9, 2010 Her rate of pay will be $9.74 per hour, in accordance with the Temporary On-on-One Instructional Assistant Conditions of Employment.

      Hourly rate adjustment for Sharon Pristash, Secretary to the Director of Operations, to $17.58 per hour, 95% of the Category 1 - Group B position rate of the ESPA collective bargaining agreement, effective February 9, 2010, through June 30, 2010; and $19.24 per hour, 100% of the Category 1 - Group B position rate, effective July 1, 2010.

      Anita Mateyak, Business teacher and FBLA Advisor, Dr. Ken Cressman, and four FBLA students to attend/compete in the FBLA State Competition and Leadership Conference in Hershey, PA, on April 11-14, 2010, at a total cost to the district of $1,641.00.

      Adoption of the following policies: 431 - Professional Development/Professional Employees, 531 - Professional Development/Noncertificated Employees, 609 - Investment of District Funds, and 624 - Interim Taxes on Real Property, effective February 9, 2010. 

      2010-2011 Concurrent Enrollment Agreements between NASD & Northampton Community College and NASD & DeSales University.

      Three (3) year contract with Environmental Abatement Associates, Inc (EAA) to provide the necessary testing and monitoring for asbestos in all buildings in compliance with the Asbestos Hazards Emergency Response Act (AHERA) effective March 2010, through September 2012, as follows: Semi Annual Surveillance (5 x $720) - $3,600, Reinspection - $1,440, Additional Air Monitoring & Project Management - $75/hour, and Other Services - $60/hour plus lab costs & equipment fees.

      General construction change order for Bracy Contracting, Inc. as part of the George Wolf Renovation project:

GC-16 - $9,398.03 - To furnish and install a scratch coat to the existing south parking area - work completed.  COR-144.

      Awarding of the bid for the installation of new ceilings in the Middle School to CMG of Easton in the amount of $162,253.  ($148,600 base bid plus $1,333 for Alt G-1 and $12,320 for Alt G-3)

      Purchase of twenty-one (21) BIOFIT cafeteria tables for George Wolf Elementary School, model number #12FB29, from PEMCO at a total cost of $25,840.50.

      Purchase of a new digital recording system for the High School from DEDICATED MICROS at a cost of $39,162.00.

      2010-11 Northampton Community College Budget in the amount of $52,994,309, with the NASD portion of $699,428 required to fund the budget. 

      Resolution to authorize pursuant to the Taxpayer Relief Act and the Local Tax Collection Law the collection and payment of school real property taxes in installments.
